Oye Akideinde dwells on possibilities of AI, robotics

Oye Akideinde, the head of Digital Products and Innovations for Airtel Nigeria, recently shared his insights on Artificial intelligence and robotics at the fifth edition of the Art of Lagos conference, which was held at the Landmark Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, recently.

The event, which had the theme — Bridging the Innovation Gap: How AI, Block Chain, And Robotics Fuel Creative Ventures in Africa — witnessed an eruption of technological and intellectual insight by stakeholders from various sectors, including the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Akideinde, who was the lead discussant at the conference, shed light on case studies, which offered insights into the possibilities of AI, robotics, and block chain.

He said, “AI is not just a tool, but a catalyst for growth and development. Robotics is revolutionising the manufacturing, agricultural, and even healthcare industries in Africa. Blockchain technology, known for its security and transparency, is also profoundly impacting financial services. Together, these technologies are not just contributing to the growth of Africa’s digital economy, but they are redefining it.”

Akideinde maintained that AI went beyond creating compelling stories and comic books, to helping to understand market trends.

Acknowledging the challenges faced with access to such technologies, he harped on the importance of technological literacy, which would help to maximise avenues of technological collaboration by young and bright minds brimming with real world solutions.

Guests at the event included the General Manager of Showmax, Opeoluwa Filani; and a popular actor and filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan.
