Jonathan Expresses Concern for Nigerians, Reaffirms Commitment to Peace and Service
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has voiced deep concern over the hardship faced by everyday Nigerians, stating that if given the means, he would have done all within his power to ensure citizens had access to basic necessities.
Speaking at an Easter event where he was honored, Jonathan shared heartfelt reflections from his past and emotional insights from his early life.
“If I had the means, I would have ensured that every Nigerian had access to basic needs… Though it’s not easy, it’s not something a president can fully achieve. It’s difficult,” he said.
He recounted how he initially focused on making an impact at the state level before being drawn into national leadership. “That has always been my desire. That’s why I was hesitant when I was approached to become vice president. I said, ‘Let me work in a small state and see if I can make meaningful changes,’” he explained.
Jonathan reaffirmed his lifelong commitment to promoting peace and serving humanity, which he described as his way of honoring God.
“I’ll keep doing my best until the very end. I believe serving others is the truest way I can serve God,” he said.
Expressing gratitude for the recognition, he also thanked his supporters and loved ones, emphasizing the importance of humility, service, and empathy.
“I grew up in hardship, and when you’ve lived that life, it becomes easier to feel the pain of others. It saddens me to see true suffering, especially knowing what it felt like as a child,” he added.
