Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is back at the club’s training ground after recovering from a recent bout of pneumonia.
The Premier League side confirmed Howe’s return on Thursday, following a brief spell in hospital earlier this month that saw him miss key league fixtures against Manchester United, Crystal Palace, and Aston Villa.
“Newcastle United are delighted to confirm that Eddie Howe has returned to his duties at the club’s training centre,” the club announced. “Eddie had recently been hospitalised with pneumonia and has now returned to work after a period of recovery. We thank supporters for their warm wishes.”
During Howe’s absence, assistant manager Jason Tindall took charge of the team. Under his guidance, the Magpies picked up impressive wins over Manchester United and Crystal Palace but suffered a heavy defeat to Aston Villa.
Currently sitting fifth in the Premier League and fresh off a League Cup triumph, Newcastle will host relegation-threatened Ipswich on Saturday. The team is keen to bounce back and strengthen their bid for a Champions League spot.
The top five teams in the Premier League will qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League. Liverpool remain on course for the title, with Arsenal chasing closely in second. Just four points separate third-placed Manchester City from seventh-placed Aston Villa in a tight race for European qualification.
