Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has shed light on her unwavering support for comedienne Princess during the high-profile case involving actor Baba Ijesha, who was accused of sexually assaulting a minor.

Speaking during an episode of her show The Goldroom with Iyabo, Ojo shared that her decision to speak out was deeply personal, rooted in her own past experiences with molestation. She explained that the case struck a painful chord and compelled her to advocate strongly for justice.

“I really didn’t control my emotions then because I was outraged by what happened,” she said. “I think it’s because I had gone through similar experiences multiple times, and I just felt like enough is enough — we need to start speaking out for the girl and boy child.”

Ojo expressed her dismay at how some adults manipulated the narrative during the legal proceedings and turned their criticism toward the victim and Princess, the guardian who brought the allegations to light.

“I was taken aback when I saw adults manipulating the story and even coming for the child and Princess,” she said. “That made me realise we have a long way to go in Nigeria.”

The actress also highlighted the moral responsibility that comes with being an entertainer, stating that public figures should lead by example.

“When my fellow entertainers do wrong, I speak out because I believe we are supposed to do right by our people,” she noted. “We are not just actors—we are also role models. If we portray bad behaviour on screen, there must be consequences. We cannot preach good values and then act against them in real life.”

Ojo’s comments have reignited discussions around accountability in the entertainment industry and the role celebrities play in advocating for social justice.
