The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has reported a significant rise in petrol prices, with the average retail price for a litre increasing from N750.17 in June 2024 to N1,037.66 in June 2025. This marks a 38.32% jump compared to the previous year, according to the NBS’s Petrol Price Watch for June 2025, released in Abuja on Thursday. The price also saw a slight month-on-month increase of 0.96% from May’s average of N1,027.76.

Regionally, Jigawa recorded the highest average retail price at N1,107.52, followed closely by Ondo at N1,104.80 and Lagos at N1,100.29. In contrast, Yobe, Kogi, and Imo had the lowest prices, at N950.60, N986.67, and N987.86, respectively.

Zone-wise analysis revealed that the North-West had the highest average price at N1,062.84, while the North-East reported the lowest at N1,020.15 per litre.

Additionally, the NBS’s Diesel Price Watch Report for June 2025 indicated that the average retail price for diesel was N1,813.81 per litre, representing a 23.98% increase from N1,462.98 in June 2024. Month-on-month, this reflects a rise of 3.16% from May’s price of N1,758.26.

The lowest diesel prices were found in Ondo at N1,365.71, followed by Anambra at N1,391.02 and Kogi at N1,400.00. The South-South Zone recorded the highest diesel price at N1,963.86 per litre, while the South-West had the lowest at N1,618.74. (NAN)
