President Bola Tinubu has approved a one-year extension for Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service.

Adeniyi’s tenure, originally set to end on August 31, 2025, will now be extended to August 2026.

In a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the extension is intended to enable Adeniyi to strengthen ongoing reforms and fulfill key initiatives of the Tinubu administration.

These initiatives include modernizing the Customs Service, implementing the National Single Window Project, and meeting Nigeria’s commitments under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol.

“President Tinubu acknowledges Mr. Adeniyi’s dedicated leadership and commitment to public service.

“The President believes that this extension will enhance the Nigeria Customs Service’s ability to fulfill its strategic objectives of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security,” the statement noted.

Tinubu appointed Adeniyi as the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service in October 2023.

Adeniyi, who succeeded former Comptroller-General Hameed Ali in June 2023, was initially appointed in an acting role before being confirmed in October of the same year.
