Former Ekiti State Deputy Governor and ex-Senate Minority Leader, Senator Biodun Olujimi, has downplayed the likelihood of Labour Party candidate Peter Obi posing a significant threat to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election campaign in 2027.
In an interview with Kogitribune , Olujimi asserted that the charisma and rhetoric that benefitted Obi during the 2023 presidential election will not suffice in the upcoming cycle. “The rhetoric of the last election will not work again, unless he brings something new. Tinubu is a seasoned politician who understands the landscape,” she remarked.
Recently switching her allegiance from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Olujimi praised Tinubu’s extensive political experience, labeling him a formidable contender. “This is the first time we have a deeply entrenched politician as president. He knows the system inside out; it’s going to be tough,” she emphasized.
Olujimi noted Tinubu’s collaborative history, stating, “This is a man who has worked with everyone and has been instrumental in supporting various governments. Defeating him will be an uphill battle.”
Discussing her shift to the APC, she cited the decisive and pragmatic nature of Tinubu’s administration as a key factor. “The APC we talked about before is not the same as the current one. This government is resolute, making tough decisions and sticking to them, unlike previous administrations that backtracked under pressure,” she explained.
While acknowledging the potential criticism of leaving the PDP—a party that played a significant role in her political rise—Olujimi expressed that she felt it had lost its momentum and public confidence. “My grassroots supporters are pleased with my decision to leave the PDP,” she concluded.
