The Osun State Chairman of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Hon. Adewale Adebayo, has initiated the process to recall the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, over an alleged threat to the life of his hometown monarch, the Alasi of Asi, Oba Isaac Oyewale.
According to reports, Oba Oyewale reportedly fled his palace following a confrontation during which Speaker Egbedun, who represents the Odo-Otin State Constituency, allegedly vowed to physically assault the traditional ruler. The Speaker has since apologised to his supporters for the outburst, but the controversy has continued to stir public outrage.
In a statement issued on Monday, Adebayo confirmed that a formal recall process would begin immediately. “We have concluded plans to initiate his recall and will be submitting a notification letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by Monday,” he said.
Adebayo cited longstanding dissatisfaction with Egbedun’s performance, stating: “We have lost confidence in his representation long ago. This recent threat to the life of his hometown king is the last straw. He previously shielded fraud suspects from arrest, assaulted a court bailiff and a lawyer, and generally offered poor legislative representation.”
He added that residents of the Odo-Otin Constituency are united in the decision to pursue the recall. “We are commencing the process from August 4, 2025. If a lawmaker can threaten a respected traditional ruler in his own community, then no citizen is safe.”
The move marks a significant escalation in political tensions in the constituency and signals a growing call for accountability from elected officials.
