The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, announced the decision in a statement on Wednesday after consultations with key stakeholders in the aviation sector and individuals involved in the incident.
Emmanson was accused of assaulting a flight attendant and clashing with security personnel at the airport on August 10, 2025. Following her arraignment at the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, she was remanded for failing to provide adequate sureties.
The case sparked widespread public outrage after a viral video emerged showing her with torn clothing, exposing her upper body. Keyamo condemned the leak of the footage and ordered action against Ibom Air officials responsible for its circulation.
The Nigerian Bar Association, civil society groups, and members of the public criticised both the airline and the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) for what they described as a mishandling of the matter.
In his latest statement, Keyamo said the decision to drop the case followed “valuable lessons” learned by all parties and heightened public awareness about airport security and conduct.
“Though regrettable, we think valuable lessons have been learnt by all sides. Airport security protocols have been well highlighted, and public awareness has been raised about appropriate conduct within the aviation space,” the minister stated.
He acknowledged that both the passenger and airline staff committed wrongs and stressed the need for mutual accountability.
Keyamo revealed that Ibom Air agreed to withdraw its complaint after Emmanson expressed “great remorse” in the presence of her lawyer. The move paves the way for her immediate release from custody.
“I have also conferred with the leadership of the Airline Operators of Nigeria and appealed to them to lift the lifetime flying ban imposed on her, to which they agreed,” Keyamo added, noting that the AON would release details of the resolution in due course.
