The programme, launched in partnership with technology training firm GOMYCODE, is designed to bridge Nigeria’s AI skills gap while empowering developers to tackle real-world challenges in sectors such as fintech, healthtech, and agritech.
Driving Nigeria’s AI Future
John Kimani, Google’s Head of Developer Ecosystem for Sub-Saharan Africa, described the move as a significant step toward accelerating the country’s participation in the global AI economy.
“We are witnessing a technological renaissance in Nigeria, driven by a vibrant community of developers who are eager to solve the challenges around them.
Our collaboration with GOMYCODE is about more than just training; it’s about empowering this community with the tools and expertise they need to build the future,” he said.
Kimani noted that the training will leverage advanced AI tools like Gemini and a curriculum curated by Google experts. The goal, he said, is to transform raw talent into specialised AI expertise, enabling Nigerian developers to lead Africa’s digital transformation.
Hands-On, Practical Learning
The 11-week programme will be delivered through GOMYCODE’s network of hacker spaces, combining in-person classes with mentored, hands-on lab sessions.
“This approach ensures that the training is both accessible and practical, allowing developers to immediately apply their learning to real-world projects,” Kimani explained.
Building Local Innovation Capacity
Babatunde Olaifa, GOMYCODE’s Country Director for Nigeria, said the company would provide the infrastructure and local expertise to help participants thrive.
“We are creating an environment where innovation can flourish, and we are incredibly excited to see solutions built by Nigerians, for Nigeria and the world,” Olaifa said.
He added that the partnership allows GOMYCODE to deliver a world-class curriculum and cutting-edge technology directly to local talent.
Applications Now Open
Developers nationwide can now apply for the programme via bit.ly/BwAIDevTraining. The training will conclude with a demo day, where top participants will pitch their AI-powered solutions to Google and industry leaders.
