The facility, developed by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (OSSAP-SDGs), was formally handed over on Tuesday to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba, for effective management.

Dignitaries present at the event included the Olu of Warri, His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, who was applauded for his contributions towards the establishment of the hospital.

Speaking at the commissioning, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, described the hospital as a landmark achievement in advancing Goal 3 of the Sustainable Development Goals—ensuring good health and well-being.

“Today, we are not merely unveiling a health facility, but reaffirming our collective commitment to providing quality healthcare to the most vulnerable segments of society,” she stated.

The ultra-modern hospital is equipped with operating theatres, recovery wards, consulting rooms, diagnostic facilities, and a 120kV solar power system to guarantee uninterrupted services. Orelope-Adefulire emphasized that the project reflects the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, adding that it was made possible through the support of the Delta State Government and the land donation by the Olu of Warri.

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Johnson Erijo, assured stakeholders of the state’s support in positioning the facility as a regional centre of excellence.

Dr. Mary Alile Idele, Chairman of FMC Asaba Board, described the hospital as “a beacon of hope and a promise of a healthier future,” while urging the community to plan for expansion to meet future healthcare demands.

Acting Medical Director of FMC Asaba, Dr. Ekeneam Omo, confirmed that clinical services at the hospital commenced in June 2024, adding that the facility would significantly improve healthcare access for mothers and children in Warri and its environs.
