In a press statement signed by its National Public Relations Officer, Comrade Adeyemi Samson Ajasa, NANS described the appointment as a strategic move aligned with Nigeria’s national objectives of innovation, youth empowerment, and digital transformation.

The association highlighted Olorunnimbe’s vast experience in the private sector, noting his role as Group CEO of The Temple Company and his impactful service as a former board member of the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), where he spearheaded initiatives that empowered thousands of young Nigerians through entrepreneurship and job creation.

“NANS strongly believes Mr. Olorunnimbe’s track record in driving inclusive growth and innovation will bring fresh energy and vision to Nigeria’s telecom and ICT ecosystem,” the statement read. “His dual role at NCC and USPF is timely and vital, especially as the country works to expand broadband access, boost digital literacy, and close inequality gaps in digital opportunities.”

The student body further urged Olorunnimbe to prioritize student needs, especially by addressing the challenge of high data subscription costs, which continue to hinder academic research and online learning.

“We are hopeful that under his leadership, the NCC will push for reforms that will make data services more affordable, accessible, and student-friendly across tertiary institutions,” NANS stated.

The association also expressed confidence that Olorunnimbe would collaborate effectively with the NCC’s Executive Vice Chairman, Dr. Aminu Maida, and the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, to bridge the digital divide through sustainable policies and infrastructure.

NANS reaffirmed its readiness to work with the NCC, USPF, and other stakeholders to ensure Nigerian students are not left behind in the country’s digital future, while commending President Tinubu for what it described as a “visionary appointment.”
