The projects under review include the reconstruction of 20km of the Okomita–Uyanga–Ehom Road in Akamkpa and Biase, 1.5km of the Idundu Junction–Idundu Bridge Road in Akpabuyo, and 10.8km of the Aking–Osomba Road in Akamkpa, all being executed by Messers Faith Plant Nigeria Limited.
The delegation was led by Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, Chairman of the Senate Committee on NDDC and Senator representing Cross River South. He was accompanied by committee members, the NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, and the Commission’s Executive Director of Projects, Obong Victor Antai.
They were received by Akamkpa Local Government Chairman, Felix Akposi, alongside Cross River House of Assembly members Okon Owuna and Linus Bassey, representing Akamkpa Constituencies 1 and 2 respectively, as well as councillors from the host communities.
Speaking during the visit, Senator Ekpenyong commended the NDDC’s commitment to infrastructural development, noting that the roads are vital for trade, education, healthcare, and overall socio-economic growth.
“This is a practical demonstration of the NDDC’s renewed commitment. These roads will open up communities, boost commerce, and improve access to essential services. The 10th Senate Leadership fully supports this intervention,” he stated, while also applauding Governor Bassey Otu’s efforts on infrastructure.
Dr. Ogbuku, in his remarks, assured residents of the NDDC’s dedication to delivering durable and people-centered projects.
“These roads will ease transportation burdens and foster socio-economic growth in Cross River and beyond. We remain committed to transparency, accountability, and timely completion of all projects,” he affirmed.
The inspection marks part of the Senate’s oversight function to ensure quality infrastructure delivery in the Niger Delta region.
