The development followed a visit by a 20-member delegation of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Kano Branch, to the NDPHC headquarters, where they expressed interest in accessing electricity through the company’s Eligible Customer Programme.

Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of NDPHC, Jennifer Adighije, assured the delegation of the company’s readiness to support industrial growth by selling electricity directly to manufacturers within the framework of regulations and infrastructural capacity.

“We are committed to partnering with the manufacturing sector to drive industrial growth, create jobs, and enhance socio-economic development. Within the provisions of the eligible customer framework, we are ready to work with MAN in Kano to make this happen,” she said in a statement on Sunday.

Adighije explained that NDPHC’s recent improvements in plant availability had strengthened its ability to meet off-taker demand, citing the revival of key assets such as the Omotosho and Alaoji power plants. She further disclosed that the company intends to release and commercialise about 200 megawatts of its stranded 2,000 megawatts capacity by the end of 2025.

Leading the MAN delegation, Managing Director of Dala Foods, Ali Madugu, appealed to NDPHC to extend its direct power supply programme to Kano manufacturers. He stressed that access to stable electricity was critical to reviving industries and protecting jobs in the state.

“Our members have both the capacity and willingness to procure power directly from NDPHC. Access to reliable electricity is critical for reviving industries and sustaining jobs in Kano State,” Madugu said.

NDPHC’s Executive Director of Corporate Services, Commercial and Strategy, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, and Executive Director of Networks, Bello Babayo Bello, presented a roadmap to MAN Kano, detailing how manufacturers could leverage NDPHC’s supply opportunities.

Adighije, however, lamented what she described as the “abysmally low uptake of electricity” by Discos from the national grid, noting that it had weighed heavily on the company’s operations.

The meeting ended on a positive note, with both parties expressing optimism about building a mutually beneficial partnership to unlock Kano’s industrial potential.
