Speaking at the induction ceremony of 785 newly recruited staff on Tuesday at the A-Class Event Centre, Abuja, the Clerk to the National Assembly (CNA), Kamoru Ogunlana, said the stability of the democratic system has strengthened the legislature, making it more professional, responsive, and accountable to Nigerians.
Ogunlana, represented by the Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly, Engineer Bashir Yero, urged the new staff to approach their duties with dedication, discipline, and professionalism.
“Working in the National Assembly is a calling that demands more than academic qualification. It requires knowledge of legislative practices and procedures, high moral standards, and strong personal discipline,” he said.
He charged them to embrace technology, constantly update their knowledge, and remain loyal and diligent in service, reminding them that the National Assembly is the symbol of Nigeria’s democracy.
The CNA assured the recruits of management’s commitment to their welfare, noting that salaries were being paid promptly and their 28-day allowances had already been settled. He stressed that their service would contribute significantly to strengthening governance and consolidating democratic gains in the country.
It will be recalled that only last week, Ogunlana also assured over 3,000 legislative aides to the 469 federal lawmakers of job protection and improved remuneration, part of broader efforts to reposition the Assembly’s workforce for better service delivery.
