Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, confirmed the development in a statement on his official X handle, describing the visit as a “historic engagement” that will open a new chapter in South-South cooperation.
“From August 30 to September 2, 2025, Nigeria will host Her Excellency Francia Márquez, Vice President of Colombia, on an official visit to deepen diplomatic and economic cooperation,” Shettima posted.
“This historic engagement will strengthen ties in trade, agriculture, education, energy, culture, and women’s empowerment, opening a new chapter in South-South collaboration. Together, we are building bridges and shaping a future of shared prosperity,” he added.
Márquez’s trip signals Colombia’s growing interest in expanding partnerships with African nations, with Nigeria seen as a strategic ally in advancing global cooperation and mutual development.
