Speaking with journalists in Abuja after a closed-door meeting with governors of oil-producing states, officials of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Uzodimma said the committee is working closely with key industry stakeholders to meet the target set by President Bola Tinubu.

The governor explained that the meeting reviewed progress in tackling crude oil theft and improving output levels, adding that recent data shows encouraging signs.

“Just yesterday, the National Economic Council received an update from our sub-committee on crude oil theft and prevention. We observed an upward trend in production, thanks to the joint efforts of security agencies, state actors, and industry management,” Uzodimma noted.

He said the briefing with the new leadership of the NNPCL and NUPRC gave confidence that the sector is moving in the right direction.

“We are satisfied with the presentations and work plan of NNPCL. Our committee will continue to engage with them to align strategies that will enable Nigeria to hit the 3 million barrels per day production target,” he added.

Uzodimma commended President Tinubu for his reforms in the oil and gas sector, stressing that they are already yielding positive results for the economy.

The renewed collaboration between government agencies, oil companies, and security institutions is expected to not only tackle oil theft but also strengthen Nigeria’s position in the global energy market.
