Speaking at the opening of the GITEX Nigeria Tech Expo and Future Economy Conference 2025, the governor described Lagos as a cornerstone of Africa’s digital transformation, stressing that the state’s vibrant innovation ecosystem will play a central role in reshaping Nigeria’s economic future.

Sanwo-Olu noted that Lagos currently hosts 23 of Nigeria’s fastest-growing companies, as listed by the Financial Times. He attributed this success to progressive government policies, private sector investment, and a thriving startup culture that continues to attract global attention.

“We’re not just showcasing technology today; we’re forging partnerships and igniting innovation to propel Nigeria toward its $1 trillion economic target,” the governor declared.

The GITEX Expo, organised by the Lagos State Government in partnership with KAOUN International, the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, and NITDA, has drawn major global players including IBM, Meta, MTN, AWS, Cisco, and a wide range of Nigerian startups.

Sanwo-Olu described Lagos as more than just a city but a movement, urging innovators and stakeholders to seize opportunities, build connections, and help position both Nigeria and Africa as global leaders in the digital economy.

He also commended the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, for championing artificial intelligence infrastructure and inclusive digital solutions that are placing Nigeria firmly on the global technology map.

In his remarks, Dr. Tijani highlighted the importance of strengthening digital infrastructure to cope with Lagos’ fast-paced growth, noting that the city absorbs about 2,000 new residents daily. He revealed that the government will on October 1launch a new programme to fund 75 digital research projects, deepening collaboration between Nigerian researchers, startups, and the diaspora.

The minister further stressed the need for stronger partnerships between government, corporates, and innovators to scale solutions and ensure resilience across Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.
