Osimhen, who played a key role in Nigeria’s 1-0 victory over Rwanda on Saturday, was forced off in the first half after sustaining an ankle injury. He was replaced by Panathinaikos’ new signing, Cyriel Dessers.
Speaking on Turkish outlet Now Spor, as quoted by habersarikirmizi, Buruk revealed that the Nigerian forward is currently battling pain and needs further medical evaluation.
“If possible, we want to bring him [Osimhen] here as soon as possible and have him checked,” Buruk said.
“It will be clearer tomorrow, but he is in pain. He will not be able to play in the match in two days [against South Africa]. We will see how he is. It was a shame for us.”
The development comes as a major blow for both Nigeria and Galatasaray, who view Osimhen as central to their ambitions. For the Super Eagles, his absence leaves coach Finidi George with a tactical headache ahead of the must-win clash against Bafana Bafana.
Nigeria’s camp will now rely on Dessers and other attacking options to step up in Osimhen’s absence as the team continues its bid for a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
