The charges against Bilikisu involve disputed ownership of Plot 4022 in Guzape District and Plots 1861, 1862, and 1863 in Katampe District, all located in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). She was arraigned following a petition by 79-year-old widow, Hajia Colleen Mero Yesufu, who claims rightful ownership of the properties.

INAHURAT has repeatedly accused the IGP of obstructing justice in the case, citing his alleged ties to the suspect. In a statement issued on Monday by its coordinator, Comrade Gerald Katchy, the group described the IGP’s alleged association with Bilikisu as “a gross abuse of privilege and office” and “a mockery of Nigeria’s criminal justice system.”

The statement was in reaction to full-page newspaper advertorials placed by Bilikisu in national dailies to celebrate the IGP’s 61st birthday, despite being under active prosecution by both the police and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

According to INAHURAT, the silence of the police leadership over the adverts raises serious concerns about impartiality and accountability.

“It is disturbing that while the Nigerian state is prosecuting Bilikisu for serious allegations of forgery and fraud, she has the audacity to felicitate publicly with the head of the police institution. This undermines public confidence in the justice system,” the group stated.

Bilikisu, also known as Rebecca Omokamo Godwin Isaac (a.k.a. Bilikisu Ishaku Aliyu), was arraigned in January 2025 by the police before Justice Sadiya Mayana of the Federal High Court and again on June 18, 2025, by the EFCC before Justice J.O. Abdulmalik, both in Abuja. Her husband, Ishaku Isaac Yusuf, alongside Homadil Nigeria Limited, also faces charges of alleged forgery of title documents, power of attorney, and fraudulent sale of properties worth billions of naira.

The group further alleged that despite the charges, the IGP has provided the suspect with VIP police protection, including armed escorts, which they claim undermines her prosecution.

INAHURAT also claimed that Bilikisu was awarded a ₦507 million contract in December 2023 to renovate the IGP’s guest house in Maitama, Abuja, calling it a further indication of close ties between her and the police chief.

The rights group urged President Bola Tinubu to suspend the IGP immediately to pave the way for an independent investigation into his relationship with Bilikisu and allegations of interference in the ongoing prosecution.

They also demanded that the Nigeria Police Force issue an official clarification on the matter and stop obstructing the EFCC and judiciary from discharging their duties.

“The Nigerian Police Force must immediately cease all interference in the prosecution of Bilikisu Ishaku Rebecca and allow the EFCC and the judiciary to carry out their duties without obstruction,” INAHURAT added.
