In the petition, Duru accused Fakorede, who heads the IGP Monitoring Unit, of corruption, intimidation, and obstructing justice in relation to her case. She alleged that the senior officer abused his position and engaged in what she described as “gross misconduct” and “institutional complicity.”

Duru, a key witness in the case, claimed that Fakorede interfered with her matter, withheld her case file, delayed the release of a suspect, and even kept her house keys in police custody. She further issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the IGP, warning that her life has been under threat.

The rift between Duru and Fakorede reportedly escalated after leaked WhatsApp messages surfaced, showing the officer initially praising her before relations soured when she accused him of tampering with evidence and witnesses. The exchanges quickly devolved into heated words, with Duru maintaining that the commissioner compromised the investigation.

Since going public with allegations linking Senator Akpoti to misconduct, Duru said she has faced relentless attacks, including threats involving her children. She described her fight as a “one-woman war” to clear her name and ensure justice is served.

Beyond the petition, Duru has also filed a separate cybercrime-related case against individuals she claims defamed her, insisting that some police officers were colluding to frustrate the proceedings in favour of Senator Akpoti.

The petition has further intensified public concerns over transparency in politically sensitive cases. While Duru says she possesses credible evidence to back her claims, the police authorities are yet to issue an official response.

Observers say the case highlights growing fears of bias and interference in Nigeria’s law enforcement system, raising questions about accountability and the integrity of investigations.
