The Mandate Secretary, Health Services and Environment Secretariat, Dr. Adedolape Fasawe, disclosed this in Abuja on Wednesday during the matriculation ceremony of students of the FCT School of Nursing, Gwagwalada.
Fasawe, represented by the Director of Nursing Services, Health and Management Board, Mrs. Grace Musa, said the initiative would enhance healthcare delivery and improve working conditions for health workers. According to her, most call rooms in FCT hospitals are currently undergoing renovation, while the administration has also commenced the payment of uniform allowances for nurses.
She further revealed that the Secretariat was collaborating with stakeholders to push for the passage of four health-related bills at the National Assembly to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in the FCT.
Also speaking, the Pioneer Provost of the FCT School of Nursing, Dr. Deborah Yusuf, emphasized the need for more infrastructural development to support quality learning and research.
The lawmaker representing Bwari/AMAC Federal Constituency, Hon. Joshua Obika, assured that he would support efforts to improve education and healthcare services in the territory, adding that the FCT Nursing Bill would likely pass its second reading before next year.
Earlier, the Director of Nursing Services, Health Services and Environment Secretariat, Mrs. Ijeoma Jimi-Bada, urged the new students to embody compassion, diligence, and sacrifice — values central to the nursing profession.
In his remarks, the Registrar, National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Dr. Alhasan Ndagi, represented by Mr. Aliyu Adam, Head of Department, Planning, Research and Statistics, warned against examination malpractice and encouraged the students to uphold professional ethics while striving for excellence.
