The PDP’s elective national convention is scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State. The decision to suspend the duo was reached at the forum’s meeting held at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday.
The forum, led by its acting chairman and Edo State PDP Chairman, Tony Aziegbemi, also reaffirmed its confidence in the National Working Committee (NWC) headed by Umar Damagum.
Both Nwachukwu and Nnana, known allies of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, are currently in court alongside another member of the party to stop the scheduled convention.
Aziegbemi told reporters after the meeting that 28 chairmen attended the session, where they discussed critical issues concerning the PDP and its future. He said the forum had resolved to support the party’s leadership and ensure a successful convention that would strengthen the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“The forum condemned the actions of Nwachukwu and Nnana who sought a court injunction to halt the national convention. Their actions were seen as a betrayal of the party’s unity and collective resolve,” Aziegbemi said.
He added that the forum unanimously resolved to suspend the two members and appointed him as the new chairman of the forum.
The statement also accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempting to destabilize the PDP through intimidation and coercion of its leaders into defection, describing such acts as “an assault on democracy.”
Aziegbemi urged all PDP members and supporters to remain calm and united, assuring them of the forum’s cooperation with the national leadership to reposition the party for victory in 2027.
