The event took place at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, when Shettima hosted a delegation from PLAN International led by its Director of Programme, Quality and Innovation, Helen Idiong.
Speaking during the meeting, the Vice President reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s dedication to empowering the girl-child through various educational initiatives, including the national school feeding programme.
“In President Bola Tinubu, you have an ally you can believe in and invest your trust in,” Shettima told the delegation, noting that the administration prioritises inclusivity and gender equality.
He also described First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu as a symbol of what a supported and educated girl-child can become, recalling her strong advocacy for girl-child education during her time in the Senate.
After his remarks, Shettima invited Joy Ogah to take over his seat and address the nation.
In her speech, Ogah called for concrete actions from the government, policymakers, and development partners to advance girl-child education, protect girls’ rights, and provide free sanitary products in schools, as well as access to water and nutrition for all children.
She expressed concern that 10.5 million Nigerian children remain out of school, with over 60% being girls, urging urgent intervention.
“I may be the Vice President for a day, but the struggles I represent cannot end in a day. They must continue in our policies, classrooms, and national conversations,” Ogah said.
