Human Rights and Advocacy in Africa Network (CHRAAN) stormed the PSC headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, on Thursday, demanding a thorough probe into the senior officer’s actions.
The demonstrators, carrying placards, accused AIG Aina of professional misconduct and called on the Commission to take decisive disciplinary action.
In a detailed petition submitted to the PSC, CHRAAN alleged that in 2024, AIG Aina aided one Asabe Waziri, a staff member of the NNPC, in forcefully reoccupying two Maitama apartments from which she had been lawfully evicted by a court judgment.
The group alleged that the officer used his position to intimidate Victor Giwa, Esq., the property owner’s lawyer, arresting and detaining him twice between June and July 2024, in violation of a subsisting court order.
CHRAAN further claimed that AIG Aina ignored multiple pending appeals at higher courts and illegally detained another individual, Godwin Okey, as a substitute for the lawyer.
According to the petition, the AIG also allegedly ordered Giwa’s arrest in Lagos on September 19, 2025, and detained him for over ten days without arraignment, contrary to the provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015.
The group accused AIG Aina and a retired AIG, Ekeinde Oyakhire, of aiding Asabe Waziri to persecute the lawyer, describing their actions as “illegal, unlawful, and a breach of the Police Act.”
Reacting to the protest, the PSC’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, confirmed that the Commission had received the complaint and would ensure an impartial investigation.
“The Commission wishes to state that it will look into the complaints and ensure that justice is served to both parties,” Ani said.
He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to transparency and accountability within the police force, urging Nigerians to support efforts to uphold integrity in law enforcement.
Ani also revealed that the PSC had introduced a whistleblowing policy to encourage citizens to report cases of corruption and misconduct among police officers and other personnel under its supervision.
