According to exclusive findings, 14 of the detained officers are from the Nigerian Army, while the remaining two are from the Navy and Air Force, respectively.
Sources familiar with the investigation disclosed that 12 of the army officers belong to the Infantry Corps — the combat unit responsible for ground operations — while one is from the Signals Corps and another from the Ordnance Corps.
The suspects include a brigadier general, a colonel, four lieutenant colonels, five majors, two captains, a lieutenant, a lieutenant commander, and a squadron leader.
The Defence Headquarters has maintained silence over the alleged coup plot, though it earlier dismissed speculations that it was behind the low-key Independence Day celebration on October 1.

- Colonel M.A. Ma’aji (N/10668): From Niger State; born March 1, 1976; reputed as key strategist of the alleged coup; served as Commanding Officer, 19 Battalion, Okitipupa.
- Lt. Colonel S. Bappah (N/13036): Signals Corps officer from Bauchi State; born June 21, 1984.
- Lt. Colonel A.A. Hayatu (N/13038): Infantry officer from Kaduna State; born August 13, 1983.
- Lt. Colonel P. Dangnap (N/13025): Plateau State; previously court-martialed in 2015 during Boko Haram operations.
- Lt. Colonel M. Almakura (N/12983): Infantry officer from Nasarawa State; born March 18, 1983.
- Major A.J. Ibrahim (N/13065): Infantry officer from Gombe State; born June 12, 1987.
- Major M.M. Jiddah (N/13003): Infantry officer from Katsina State; born July 9, 1985.
