The denial follows circulating news and social media posts claiming that Yerima was trailed by unidentified men in black, driving two unmarked Hilux vans without number plates, in what was reported as a high-speed pursuit from NIPCO filling station along Kubwa Expressway to Gado Nasco Way around 6:30 p.m.
According to the reports, Yerima managed to evade the assailants through a “strategic manoeuvre.” The incident was widely linked to the officer’s recent confrontation with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike over a disputed land allocation in Abuja.
In a statement on Sunday night, SP Josephine Adeh, FCT Police Command spokesperson, described the claims as entirely false, noting that no such incident was reported or recorded in the territory. She urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
Earlier reports from PUNCH Online noted that the clash between Yerima and Wike occurred on November 11 over a plot in Gaduwa District, allegedly belonging to former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Zubairu Gambo (retd.) Videos circulating online showed Yerima, on security duty, blocking Wike’s team from accessing the site.
Minister Wike accused the retired military chief of carrying out illegal development and confronted Yerima for allegedly assaulting personnel of the Federal Capital Development Authority, who were on-site to halt construction. The minister was heard berating the officer and questioning his authority, sparking public debate over the legality of the officer’s actions.
While some argued that the minister acted within his constitutional mandate, military veterans backed the officer, rejecting calls for disciplinary action and demanding an apology from Wike.
In a related statement, Minister of Defence Mohammed Abubakar assured that no lawful military personnel would face sanctions, saying, “We will always protect officers on lawful duty,” during a briefing for the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
