ABUJA, August 5, 2025 – The Federal Government has approved the promotion of 30 senior officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) to the rank of Assistant Controller-General of Corrections, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership capacity within the Service.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Tuesday by NCoS spokesperson, Umar Abubakar, who confirmed that the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) had endorsed the elevations following a rigorous review process.
According to the statement, 27 of the promoted officers are from the general duty cadre, recognised for their outstanding performance, commitment to service, and leadership in various formations across the country. Additionally, three professional officers were promoted in recognition of their specialised contributions in Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing, and Public Health.
Abubakar said the promotions reflect the Board’s commitment to merit-based advancement, professional excellence, and the ongoing reforms within the Service under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The reform process, he noted, is being driven by Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, whose leadership was praised as both “unwavering” and “unprecedented” in pushing institutional transformation.
In a congratulatory message, Controller-General of Corrections, Sylvester Nwakuche, commended the newly promoted officers and urged them to embrace the responsibilities that come with their new roles.
“I urge them to redouble their effort to service delivery, strategic leadership, and the core mandates of reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration of inmates,” Nwakuche said.
He further described the promotions as not merely rewards, but a call to greater responsibility, aligning with global best practices in correctional administration.
Nwakuche reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to building a disciplined, motivated, and professional workforce capable of delivering on the demands of modern corrections and public safety.
