President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Engr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat to serve as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), alongside two other appointments to key positions within the agency.
This was disclosed in a statement released on Thursday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
According to the statement, Engr. Ramat, a 39-year-old electrical engineer and administrator with a PhD in Strategic Management, has been nominated to lead the commission. His nomination, along with those of Mr. Abubakar Yusuf as Commissioner for Consumer Affairs and Dr. Fouad Olayinka Animashun as Commissioner for Finance and Management Services, is subject to confirmation by the Senate.
To prevent a leadership vacuum at the regulatory body, President Tinubu has directed Ramat to assume office in an acting capacity, pending his formal screening and approval by the National Assembly.
The President called on the nominees to deploy their expertise and dedication in driving the administration’s power sector reforms and ensuring improved electricity regulation in the country.
