INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, disclosed this in a statement issued after the commission’s regular meeting in Abuja.
According to Olumekun, the CVR will resume on August 18, 2025, starting with online pre-registration, while in-person registration will begin a week later on August 25. Both processes will run concurrently for one year, ending on August 30, 2026.
The exercise will be held at INEC’s 774 local government offices and state headquarters, operating from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays. To assist eligible voters, INEC will launch an online CVR Live Locator on August 17 to help citizens find their nearest registration centre. The locator will be accessible at https://cvr.inecnigeria.org/locator.
Olumekun revealed that the commission has uploaded a 38-page document listing the addresses of all registration centres, along with dedicated phone numbers for each state to serve as help desks. He said the procedures for both online and in-person registration remain unchanged from 2022, and detailed guides—including instructional videos—will be released next week.
On political party registration, Olumekun said INEC has received eight new letters of intent from associations seeking to register as political parties, bringing the total to 151. Details of these applications, including proposed names, acronyms, logos, and leadership structures, have been published on the commission’s website.
He added that INEC has begun shortlisting associations that meet preliminary requirements to proceed to the next application stage, with further updates expected after the bye-elections scheduled for August 16 in 12 states.
Olumekun reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to keeping Nigerians fully informed about its electoral activities.
