In a statement issued on Friday, NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, confirmed that the ongoing repair works have reached an advanced stage, with services expected to restart “in the shortest possible time.”
Train operations on the Warri-Itakpe route were halted in April after engineers detected a recurring fault that persisted despite earlier repair attempts. Following expert recommendations, the NRC suspended services to carry out comprehensive maintenance to guarantee passenger safety and service reliability.
“We are pleased to inform the public that work on the affected sections is nearing completion. A formal announcement will soon be made to communicate the specific date for resumption of services,” the statement read.
The NRC thanked passengers for their patience during the disruption and reiterated its commitment to providing safe, efficient, and comfortable rail services across the country.
The Warri-Itakpe corridor remains a crucial transportation route, linking communities across several states and facilitating both passenger movement and economic activity. The anticipated resumption of train services is expected to ease travel challenges for commuters and stimulate economic activities in the region.
The corporation stressed that its decision to temporarily suspend operations underscored its priority of ensuring passenger safety and maintaining service efficiency, adding that the imminent reopening of the route will reinforce public confidence in the railway system.
