The five-day executive leadership and capacity-building programme, which commenced on Monday at Oshodi, is tailored for the authority’s 50 zonal heads and 32 other principal officers, bringing the total to 82 participants.
This latest initiative follows the governor’s earlier directive at the start of 2025, which saw more than 3,000 frontline LASTMA officers undergo refresher training. The new phase focuses on the agency’s leadership cadre, ensuring they are better equipped to manage operations, inspire discipline, and enhance institutional efficiency.
Declaring the programme open, LASTMA’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, hailed the governor’s intervention as a “deliberate and valuable investment” in the intellectual and professional capacity of the agency’s senior command. He said the retraining would boost professional development, improve operational coordination, and increase public confidence in LASTMA’s ability to deliver on its statutory responsibilities.
Bakare-Oki explained that the modules covered include job description and performance management, organisational leadership, incident management, conflict resolution through emotional intelligence, effective communication, stress management, ethical standards, and discipline.
Also speaking, the Director of Training and Human Capacity Development, Akinpelu Ayuba, commended Governor Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to human capital development, stressing that continuous training remains critical to the agency’s efficiency. He urged motorists to consistently obey traffic laws and engage LASTMA officers with civility and respect, noting that cooperation between citizens and traffic managers is essential to achieving safer and more orderly road use in Lagos.
The retraining programme underscores the Sanwo-Olu administration’s determination to modernise traffic governance in Lagos and build an adaptive, efficient system that reflects global best practices.
