Speaking on behalf of the Senator Nenadi Usman-led interim leadership, the party’s Interim National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Tony Akeni, said the adoption of technology in election management is long overdue.
“In this modern era, the sensible thing to do is to take advantage of technology to improve our electoral process,” Akeni said. “Giving electronic transmission of results legal backing will not only enhance transparency but also prevent a repeat of the 2023 tragedy.”
The Labour Party further urged civil society groups, the media, and citizens to remain vigilant in defending their votes, stressing that collective participation is vital for credible democracy.
Akeni also called on the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to play a more active role in safeguarding electoral integrity.
“It is not enough to amend our laws,” he cautioned. “Legal practitioners must ensure that nation building takes precedence, especially when handling election-related cases. We can only practice our professions within a stable nation.”
With this call, the LP joins growing voices pushing for stronger reforms that will make Nigeria’s elections more transparent, credible, and technology-driven.
