The announcement was made in Port Harcourt on Wednesday through a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, who confirmed that the action takes immediate effect.
Before the directive, Fubara held a valedictory session with members of his cabinet at the Government House, Port Harcourt, as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary. He thanked them for their services and contributions to the state over the past two years.
“Rivers State Governor, His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has thanked members of his cabinet for their services and contributions to the development of the State in the last two years. Furthermore, the Governor has relieved all Commissioners and other public officers affected by the recent Supreme Court judgment of their appointments with immediate effect,” the statement read.
The governor also used the occasion to call on Nigerians to unite with President Bola Tinubu in building a peaceful, secure, and prosperous nation. He pledged renewed commitment to the service of Rivers people and extended Independence anniversary goodwill to citizens across the country.
This development follows the earlier suspension of Fubara’s commissioners and aides by Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), who served as interim administrator after the state was placed under emergency rule. Ibas, who exited the state on September 18, had dissolved boards and suspended heads of parastatals, leaving the fate of Fubara’s appointees uncertain until Wednesday’s announcement.
