The health workers had embarked on an indefinite industrial action in September 2025 over welfare-related grievances, including unpaid promotion arrears, minimum wage arrears, and poor working conditions.
Governor Makinde, during a visit to the hospital on Wednesday, held discussions with management, professional bodies, and staff representatives. At the end of the meeting, he approved an additional ₦35 million monthly subvention for the hospital, ordered the phased settlement of outstanding arrears, and directed the integration of non-staff personnel into the hospital’s system to ensure inclusivity.
He also promised the immediate constitution of a Governing Council for the institution and pledged to complete the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Annexe in Oyo before the end of his administration.
Union’s Reaction
In a joint statement released on Friday, the Unit Chairman, Ojewumi Olutayo, and Unit Secretary, Adedokun Foluwake, described Governor Makinde as a “compassionate and visionary leader” whose intervention rekindled hope among workers.
The statement read:
“The Congress of nurses and midwives held on Friday, October 3, 2025, formally resolved to suspend the strike, with full services resuming immediately.
On behalf of all nurses and midwives at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, we acknowledge Governor Makinde as a compassionate and visionary leader whose dedication to the well-being of health workers and the people of the state remains unwavering.”
The union noted that the governor’s measures not only addressed immediate welfare concerns but also laid the groundwork for long-term stability and growth in the institution.
Full Services Resume
With the suspension of the strike, full health services have resumed at the hospital, bringing relief to patients and residents who had faced disruptions in medical care since the industrial action began.
