In a statement released on Monday in Abuja, Okolugbo said the Senate, within two years, has passed over 90 bills, with 52 of them signed into law by President Bola Tinubu.
“Over ninety bills have been passed, and another two hundred are at various stages of consideration. The 10th Senate’s achievements can only be described as uncommon,” he said.
He emphasized that under Akpabio’s leadership, the Senate has played a pivotal role in stabilising the economy, strengthening the naira, and reducing inflation, which now stands at 20.12 per cent — a 4.23 per cent improvement in recent months.
Among the key legislations, he listed the Student Loan Act, which enables indigent students to access educational loans repayable only after gaining employment; the Tax Reform Bill, which expanded the tax base while easing the burden on low-income earners; and the Minimum Wage Act, which doubled workers’ pay and exempted minimum wage earners from personal income tax.
Okolugbo also highlighted the creation of five regional development commissions across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones to enhance equitable growth and infrastructure delivery.
“Working with Senator Akpabio shows why he earned the title of ‘Uncommon Governor’ during his tenure in Akwa Ibom. His developmental record remains unmatched,” he stated.
He further commended Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin for ensuring legislative continuity whenever the Senate President is away, maintaining that “there is no vacuum in the chamber.”
