In a post on his verified X handle on Monday, Obi decried the increasing number of public office holders who, according to him, used forged certificates and fraudulent affidavits during the 2023 elections to secure positions in government.
“Many of those occupying public offices today paraded forged certificates and still scaled through INEC, security, and Senate screenings. INEC does not even revisit or investigate these serious offences before the next election,” Obi stated.
The former Anambra State governor warned that the normalization of criminal behaviour among the political class poses a grave threat to Nigeria’s moral and social values.
“How do you tell young Nigerians to be honest when those they are supposed to emulate are the ones perpetuating dishonesty and criminality?” he asked.
Obi further lamented that each time he speaks against corruption, those benefiting from the system launch attacks and blackmail campaigns against him.
He urged INEC to tighten its screening and verification processes before the next election, stressing that only credible and transparent individuals should be allowed to contest public offices.
