e meeting, held at the Council Chambers of the Villa, had in attendance former military rulers Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar, who joined virtually alongside Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo.
The Council of State meeting, which is constitutionally expected to include all living former Presidents and Heads of State, the Vice President, and current and former Chief Justices of the Supreme Court, is the second to be chaired by President Tinubu since assuming office. The first was held in August 2024.
Others present at the meeting included Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; the Chief of Staff to the President; the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi; and several serving governors from across the federation.
Governors present include those of Kwara, Rivers, Enugu, Kano, Kebbi, Kogi, Borno, Ogun, Sokoto, Edo, Kaduna, and Abia States.
Also in attendance were former Chief Justices Muhammad Tanko, Mohammed Belgore, and Walter Onnoghen.
The Council is expected to deliberate on pressing national issues, including the rising insecurity across various parts of the country and preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
