Mbah made the announcement during a statewide broadcast on Monday, describing the decision as a bold step taken after deep reflection.
“There comes always a time when everyone must make a bold choice to determine their destiny. Today, after a long reflection, we have made a decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party and join the All Progressives Congress,” he said.
The governor expressed appreciation to the PDP for its support throughout his political journey, noting that the party provided the platform that enabled his election victory.
“To the Peoples Democratic Party which provided us the platform on which we campaigned and won, I extend deep gratitude. Leadership demands difficult, even painful decisions, in the service of higher principles and goals,” he added.
Governor Mbah explained that his move to the APC was driven by a desire to better serve the people of Enugu and align with the ruling party’s vision for progress, unity, and national development.
He also commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for what he described as massive support and inclusive policies that have benefited Enugu State.
Mbah’s defection was not a solitary move — members of the Enugu State House of Assembly, local government chairmen, councillors, and other political appointees reportedly joined him in the switch.
Meanwhile, sources disclosed that Bayelsa State Governor Duoye Diri has also finalized plans to defect to the APC soon. Earlier this year, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno had joined the ruling party alongside their state officials.
