Speaking during his campaign visit to the area, Governor Soludo recalled that Ihiala was once a no-go zone due to rampant insecurity, where political rallies and social gatherings were nearly impossible.

“This is not just another campaign rally; today is different and historic. We have come to celebrate the liberation of Ihiala,” he declared.

Soludo narrated how, during a previous campaign season, his party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), had to cancel a rally following heavy gunfire that left several people injured.

Expressing appreciation to community leaders and security agencies for restoring peace, the governor announced an amnesty and rehabilitation programme for youths who had previously engaged in criminal activities.

He urged those still in hiding to surrender and take advantage of the government’s skills acquisition and reintegration initiatives.

Various stakeholders in Ihiala also commended the governor for restoring normalcy.

Rev. Fr. Ernest Obiegwu, representing the Ebonesie communities—including Azia, Orsumoghu, Lilu, Mbosi, Isekke, and Ubuluisiuzor—said churches that were once closed due to insecurity have reopened, and Masses are now being celebrated freely.

“Thanks to the governor’s efforts, we now feel safe in our homes and places of worship,” added Pastor Azuka Mgbochi.

Other community leaders, including Chief Nwabueze Umeh, Hon. Chika Obi, Comrade Ukatu Damian, Adaobi Orizu, and Ichie Ifeanyi Orjiakor, pledged continued support for Soludo’s administration and re-election bid.

The event ended with songs and prayers of thanksgiving for peace and a renewed hope for a prosperous Ihiala.
