In the same announcement, Major-General W. Shaibu was named Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke was appointed Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas was made Chief of Naval Staff. Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, retains his position.
The changes were contained in a statement signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, on Friday.
According to the statement, the reshuffle is part of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s national security architecture.
“The President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, expresses his profound appreciation to the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and other Service Chiefs for their patriotic service and dedicated leadership,” the statement read in part.
It added that the newly appointed officers are expected to “further enhance professionalism, vigilance, and comradeship that define the Armed Forces of Nigeria.”
All appointments, the statement confirmed, take immediate effect.
General Oluyede previously served as acting Chief of Army Staff following the death of Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja in December 2024 before this new elevation.
