Tinubu, in a letter addressed to the upper chamber and read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Tuesday’s plenary, urged the lawmakers to give prompt consideration to the nominees.
The nominees are: General Olufemi Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff; Major General Waheedi Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff; Rear Admiral Idi Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff; Air Vice Marshal Kennedy Aneke as Chief of Air Staff; and Major General Emmanuel Undiendeye as Chief of Defence Intelligence.
Akpabio referred the request to the Committee of the Whole for screening and confirmation, which is scheduled to take place on Wednesday.
The development comes barely 48 hours after President Tinubu met with the newly appointed service chiefs behind closed doors at the Presidential Villa in Abuja — his first formal engagement with the top military leadership since last Friday’s major reshuffle.
According to the Presidency, the appointments are part of a wider effort to strengthen the country’s defence and internal security systems.
Tinubu also expressed appreciation to the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and other retired officers for their patriotic service. He urged the new chiefs to uphold professionalism, discipline, and unity within the Armed Forces.
Government sources believe the shake-up, once ratified by the Senate, will enhance inter-agency collaboration and intensify the war against terrorism, banditry, and organised crime nationwide.
