In a statement released on Wednesday, Bokoru said the rumour was the handiwork of political adversaries attempting to tarnish Sylva’s image ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He clarified that Sylva, a former governor of Bayelsa State, has no connection whatsoever to any coup-related activity, stressing that he remains a firm believer in democracy and a loyal supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Bokoru, however, confirmed that Sylva’s Abuja residence was recently raided by individuals believed to be operatives from the Defence Headquarters, during which some damage was done to the property.
“For the avoidance of doubt, it is true that the residence of His Excellency, Chief Timipre Sylva, was recently subjected to a raid by individuals believed to be operatives of the Defence Headquarters. During the operation, considerable damage was inflicted on the property,” he stated.
According to him, the reason for the raid was not communicated, adding that Sylva and his wife were out of the country at the time.
“As of my last communication with His Excellency, he was undergoing routine medical checks in the United Kingdom and was scheduled to attend a professional conference in Malaysia thereafter,” he added.
Bokoru reaffirmed Sylva’s unwavering support for President Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC), urging the public to disregard the “fabricated and mischievous” claims.
He also referenced the Defence Headquarters’ earlier denial of any coup plot, emphasizing that there was no truth to the allegations.
