Also affected were Senator Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, former Deputy National Chairman Bode George, and multiple other high-ranking members accused of gross misconduct and anti-party activities.
State EXCOs Dissolved Across Seven States
The factional NEC also approved the dissolution of the party’s State Executive Committees in Oyo, Bauchi, Zamfara, Yobe, Lagos, Edo, and Ekiti States.
The decision was part of resolutions reached during the committee’s 103rd NEC meeting held at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja.
Leadership Accuses Expelled Members of Disregarding Court Orders
Presenting the memo recommending the expulsions, Acting National Chairman Alhaji Mohammed Abdulrahman accused the affected individuals of openly violating court orders and conducting activities that brought the party into disrepute.
In the communiqué read by National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the NEC stated that it was forced to act after certain party members convened an “unauthorized and illegal convention,” which triggered confusion, factional crises, and mass defections by elected officials nationwide.
NEC Reaffirms Discipline, Approves Sweeping Sanctions
The statement noted that based on breaches of Articles 58(1) and 59(1) of the PDP Constitution, the party had commenced disciplinary action against:
Adolphus Wabara, Bode George, Ben Obi, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, Bala Mohammed, Oluseyi Makinde, Dauda Lawal, Taofiq Arapaja, Setonji Koshoedo, Okechukwu Obiechina Daniel, Woyengikuro Daniel, Mohammed Kadade Suleiman, Emmanuel Ogidi, Sumaila Adamu Burga, Umar Sani, Udom Emmanuel, and Emmanuel Enorden.
The NEC also directed former South-East National Vice Chairman Chief Ali Odefa to refund salaries and allowances received after his expulsion in December 2024.
Furthermore, the committee ratified Chidiebere Egwu Goodluck as Acting National Vice Chairman (South East) and ordered deputies of all vacated NWC positions to assume their roles in acting capacity.
Fresh Congresses, Membership Audit Ahead of 2027 Elections
The NEC announced immediate caretaker committees for the affected states and endorsed fresh congresses.
It also approved a nationwide reconciliation process to rebuild trust but stressed that discipline would not be compromised.
A party-wide membership audit and revalidation will begin ahead of the 2027 general elections.
NEC also instructed its legal team to initiate action to recover seats of elected officials who defected from the party, citing sections 68(1)(g) and 109(1)(g) of the constitution.
Party Leadership Calls for Unity Despite Tensions
Earlier in the meeting, BoT Chairman Senator Mao Ohuabunwa and Acting National Chairman Alhaji Abdulrahman urged members to remain steadfast, insisting that the PDP would overcome its internal challenges.
The communiqué concluded that the era of indiscipline within the party “is over,” stressing that the party must uphold its constitution to regain public confidence and rebuild ahead of the next election cycle.
