The embassy issued the warning on Monday via a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, urging visa applicants to desist from falsifying information or submitting forged documents during the visa application process.

According to the embassy, providing false information or fake documents constitutes a serious violation of U.S. immigration laws and carries long-term consequences.

“Visa fraud has serious consequences. Lying or providing fake documents can lead to permanent visa bans under U.S. immigration law,” the embassy stated.

The warning comes amid ongoing diplomatic engagements between both countries. On the same day, the United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Richard Mills, met with Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Yusuf Tuggar, to discuss bilateral relations and areas of mutual cooperation.

The embassy reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining strong ties with Nigeria, noting that both nations would continue to collaborate on issues of shared interest.

“The United States looks forward to continuing to work together with Nigeria on issues of mutual concern,” the embassy added.
