Osimhen Scores 30th Goal as Galatasaray Storm into Turkish Cup Final
Victor Osimhen powered Galatasaray into the Turkish Cup final with his 30th goal of the season, as the Istanbul giants thrashed Konyaspor 5-1 in their semi-final clash on Tuesday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The Nigerian striker opened the scoring in the 26th minute, rising to meet a pinpoint cross from his former Napoli teammate Dries Mertens and nodding home a powerful header to set Galatasaray on their way.
Osimhen’s latest strike underscores his remarkable form this season, taking his tally to 30 goals across all competitions, alongside six assists for the reigning Turkish champions.
Uruguayan midfielder Lucas Torreira doubled the lead just before halftime, putting Galatasaray in firm control of the encounter at the Konya Buyuksehir Arena.
After the break, Robert Sallai struck twice—either side of a consolation goal from Konyaspor’s Pedrinho—to make it 4-1. Osimhen was then subbed off in the 73rd minute for Yusuf Demir, who added a fifth goal deep into stoppage time.
The Nigerian international had already played a vital role in Galatasaray’s quarter-final win over arch-rivals Fenerbahce, scoring a brace in their 2-1 victory at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium earlier this month.
Despite finishing second behind Konyaspor in Group C during the cup’s group stage—with five points from three games to Konyaspor’s seven—Galatasaray demonstrated their superiority in the knockout rounds.
With this win, the Istanbul giants stay on course for a domestic double. They currently sit five points clear at the top of the Super Lig with six matches remaining and are targeting their first Turkish Cup title since the 2016/17 season.
Osimhen, on loan from Napoli, has been a revelation for Galatasaray this season, netting 21 goals in the Super Lig, six in the Europa League, and three in the Turkish Cup. Although expected to move on in the summer, he remains focused on helping Galatasaray clinch both the league and cup before his departure.
