The Minister of State for Housing, Yusuf Abdullahi Atta, has warned the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, against any attempt to extend the tenure of the current APC Chairman in Kano, Abdullahi Abbas, for a fourth term.
Atta cautioned that any move to retain Abbas in office would trigger a serious crisis within the party. He issued this warning during a caucus meeting in Fagge Local Government Area of Kano on Saturday.
“We will not tolerate any attempt to reinstate Abdullahi Abbas after his tenure expires, as it violates the party’s constitution,” Atta stated.
He further warned, “We will not accept the imposition of Abdullahi Abbas for a fourth term. If this happens, we will immediately leave the party.”
Atta emphasized the consequences of such a decision, saying, “Let it be clear—I swear, if Abdullahi Abbas is given another chance, we will all leave the party, and the APC will collapse in Kano, jeopardizing its chances in the 2027 elections.”
He accused Abbas of arrogance and mismanagement, attributing these factors to the party’s loss of power in 2023.
“Even today, he has not changed. If he is granted another term, the party should consider itself defeated in 2027,” Atta asserted.
He added that APC had won the 2023 governorship election with Nasiru Gawuna and Murtala Sule Garo as candidates, but alleged that Abbas’ “anti-God” remarks cost the party its victory.
Reports suggest that APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje is considering reappointing Abbas as the state chairman for a fourth term, a move that has sparked resistance from party members.
