The governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has responded to reports that another explosion occurred at an oil and gas facility in the state. His reaction was shared in a report published on X on Monday.
This response follows President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s suspension of the Rivers State governor, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly. Following the suspension, President Tinubu appointed Ibokette Ibas as the new governor.
Addressing the recent gas explosion, Governor Fubara’s Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, dismissed the report as baseless, claiming that the circulated videos are fake. He also made it clear that the governor has no connection with militants or any groups intent on destabilizing the peace in Rivers State or the Niger Delta. Chukwudi stated:
“For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has no link to any militant group. Does not contemplate any such association and has no reason to encourage any criminal group or elements, anywhere in the state or Niger Delta, to undertake any action inimical to the peace of the people.”
