The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, Buhari Sule, for allegedly killing his younger brother’s wife, Ummi Saleh, with a pestle.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, Sule also attacked and seriously injured a neighbour’s daughter, Hauwa Alkassim, during the same incident.
The police said the attack took place on April 23 around 5:30 p.m. in Gunka village, Jahun Local Government Area. Following a swift response from the Divisional Police Officer and his patrol team, the victims were rushed to the General Hospital, Jahun. Sadly, Ummi Saleh died while receiving treatment, while Hauwa Alkassim remains hospitalised.
SP Adam disclosed that preliminary investigations suggest the suspect may be suffering from mental health issues. A full medical evaluation has been scheduled to assess his mental state and determine whether it played a role in the attack.
The police have handed Ummi Saleh’s remains over to her family for burial after completing preliminary investigative procedures, while Sule remains in custody as investigations continue.
