Kuda Technologies Limited Faces Legal Battle Over Workplace Allegations

Kuda Technologies Limited and its CEO, Babatunde Ogundeyi, are currently facing a legal dispute in a UK court, following allegations of sex discrimination, victimization, and unfair dismissal brought by former Group Chief People Officer (CPO), Rosemary Hewat.

Hewat filed a case in the UK Employment Tribunal in April 2024, accusing the company of victimization and forced dismissal.

Kuda provides digital banking services in Nigeria and the UK. In Nigeria, it operates Kuda Microfinance Bank, licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Hewat joined Kuda in August 2021, managing global HR operations from the company’s UK office.

According to court filings, Hewat alleged she experienced discriminatory behavior that contradicted Kuda’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policy.

News360 Nigeria reports that she also accused CEO Babatunde Ogundeyi of undermining her and fostering a culture of misogyny and intimidation.

In her complaint, she cited an incident at a company retreat in Lagos in December 2023, where the CEO allegedly referred to two female employees as “low class” and claimed they lacked “quality or luxury.” She stated that the comment left the women in tears.

Hewat also detailed how the company’s actions led to financial hardship for her and sought compensation for unfair dismissal, sex discrimination, and emotional distress.

This case has sparked discussions about workplace leadership and corporate accountability.

Jurgen Proschinger, CEO of Triangle Forces, commented via his X handle @triangleforces, “These allegations highlight critical issues around workplace equality and leadership accountability. Companies need to uphold values that foster an inclusive environment for all employees.”

Similarly, Elaina McAdams, Founder of CAUHEC, responded, “It’s important to address these serious allegations for the integrity of all involved.”
